So much of math can be taught through every day experiences. When I taught 3rd grade, I had a math center that was strictly based on real life experiences – shopping, cooking, building, eating out etc. Here is one of the projects I used to use in that center. It is called the Ice Cream Shop project. Students get scenarios about visiting an ice cream shop with a group of friends. They get to use the menu to figure out the price, and divide the bill up so everyone pays their share.
Grab a copy of the Ice Cream Shop Project on Teachers Pay Teachers or Teacher’s Notebook for your centers for just $4.50.
