When I was teaching 3rd grade, the time after testing was project time. I continued to teach guided reading and guided math, but instead of doing centers (which the kids were bored with), they worked on independent and group projects during this time.
Here is one of my favorite projects – which I did every year I taught 3rd grade – a Biography Project. All you need are the biography project sheets (which you can download from my TPT store for $4.50) and biographies on the level of your students. Your students will read the biography, complete a written project and then a creative project on the person they have read about.
At the end of the project, I always let my students come in dressed as their person and give their report first person (I am Harriet Tubman. etc. etc.) The last year, we did a “Wax Museum” with this project, which my students absolutely loved!!!
