One of the most popular centers in my room is the Vocabulary Center. For this center, students work through their weekly Vocabulary Packets.
On Monday, my students meet with me to learn the meanings of their new words and play with some real life examples. Those who speak another language also use this time to mark the meaning in their home language.
On Tuesday, my students practice writing their vocabulary words, working on spelling and remembering the meaning of each new word.
On Wednesday, my student write sentences with their vocabulary words, applying the meanings of the words in context.
On Thursday, my students play with their vocabulary words, with puzzles – cutting or crossword.
On Friday, my students use all of what they have learned to fill their words into a cloze word passage.
All of their activities are in a pre-stapled packet that they receive on Monday, keep in the vocabulary bucket at the vocabulary center all week, and place in the turn in bin each Friday. This center was designed for my English Language Learners, but it is loved (and it is educational) for my native speakers as well.
You can download my vocabulary packets to use in your vocabulary center from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Each packet has 4 levels, so there is something for each of your students. The packets are sold for $6.00, but you can get the Back to School Vocabulary Packet to try for FREE.
