December new words

I added more words to my seasonal centers

If you think words are important, you  have to find an important place in your classroom for them. Use a special wall to display and organize new words, grammar words, seasonal words, etc

Word walls have many benefits. They teach children to recognize and spell high frequency words, see patterns and relationship in words, build phonemic awareness skills and apply phonics rules. Word walls also provide reference support for children during reading and writing activities. Children learn to be independent as they use the word walls in daily activities.

Holiday Literacy Center Activity

It's about time, teachers,...for some holiday centers.

Aligned to CCSS, Friendly Frog's Syllable Sort is perfect for your holiday literacy centers.

This product challenges students to place the seasonal word/picture cards on the correct lily pad, according to the number of syllables.

This center is most appropriate for primary classrooms. However, older students who receive reading intervention may also profit from working with this center.  Kindergarten students who cannot yet read, can still use the center since the cards have both pictures and words.

This center is available on TpT and TN.  Have a good time with it!

Gingerbread and Nutcracker Days

It’s holiday time! I love this time of year – I try to tie in as many holidays and traditions in December as I can! Here are two ways I am implementing holiday learning in our classroom this year.

I will be hosting two “special events” in our classroom this year! These are really days that we complete themed activities, we have hot cocoa and munch on snacks. Yes – totally curriculum related as both events are common core aligned! The first event is “Gingerbread Day”.

I divide my kids into small groups (3-4) and they rotate between 10 stations throughout the day. I have the timer up on the SmartBoard, and each student has a brown folder where they keep their materials once their station is complete. If they're finished they can take it home; if they didn't finish they can finish when they have extra time throughout the day. Simple & easy clean up!

The second event will be “Nutcracker Day”. This day is formatted exactly like gingerbread day with the exception of the afternoon. In the afternoon we will be watching The Nutcracker ballet (or at least parts) and comparing it to the books and activities that we complete in the morning.

You can pick up both of these units at my TpT store. Have a fantastic Monday friends!

Christmas Coloring Book {sight word edition}

I just finished my Christmas Coloring Book {sight word edition}.  It uses Fry's first 100 words to color 10 different Christmas pages.  It's super cute and I can't wait to print it off and bind it for my kiddos.  This is going to be one of the gifts I give them for the holidays.  There are 2 black and white covers too.  One has Merry Christmas and the other has Happy Holidays.  I know that some schools have a rule about how you address the holiday.  It is currently available at both my TpT and TN store.  Right now it is on sale for 25% off at TN so you can get it for only $3.75 and then print it every year.

Thanks!!

Snowman Math

I have a couple RtI groups that I'm focusing mainly on number sense with.  We're working on place value and the hundreds chart in many of our sessions together.  I recently made some snowman centers that I'll be using with my groups for the next few weeks.  Click the preview below to check them out!
