Adding Tens

Understanding place value is such a hard skill for some kiddos.  They don't grasp how numbers work.  It can cause major problems as their adding large numbers together- especially if the numbers are presented horizontally.

Here are twelve different cards that can be used to practice and review place value. They're ready to go after printing and laminating!  Click on the picture below to come check it out!

Long o: {oa, ow} Sorting Center

This week my firsties are going to be learning about dinosaurs
and long o: oa, ow words.
I created this simple center to help them learn this
skill while having fun too.
I really love these sorting centers because I don't have
to explain the directions over and over again.
They follow the same template and the kiddos know what to do.
Got to LOVE that!!:)

It is available for $2 at both my stores. The picture will take you to my TpT store or {click here} to go to my TN store.

This center game was created to go along with the Reading Street Series Unit 4 Week 3 story Mister Bones: Dinosaur Hunter.

This center contains the following:
*cover
*directions for 2 different ways to play this game (sorting center and concentration-match game)
*2 sorting mats
*18 -oa word cards
*18 -ow word cards
*2 -oa recording sheets (1 for recording the -oa words, 1 for writing 6 -oa sentences)
*2 -ow recording sheets (1 for recording the -ow words, 1 for writing 6 -ow sentences)

Even though this center was made to go along with the reading street series it would still be a great center to learn or review Long o words -oa and -ow.

I'd love to have you as a follower so you will be kept up to date on new items. As always I LOVE feedback and you earn credit too:)

Thanks!!
Heather

Rockin' Teacher Materials: A Trip Down Kindergarten Lane & a Freebie!

Rockin' Teacher Materials: A Trip Down Kindergarten Lane & a Freebie! When I taught kindergarten and I always had a full length mirror at my cut and paste station so the kids could look at themselves as they created their paper people. You would be amazed at how quickly the paper people went from 'heads with arms and legs' to 'heads, necks, bodies with arms and legs', and the list goes on.
Stop by to see more!

Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine who still teaches the little ones and she asked me to come up with a rhyming activity sometime. I had so much fun coming up with this! I just love the clip art that is available now too!

If you would like to check out a close up of the pack and get a free rhyming worksheet, just click {here}.

Practicing Parts of Speech

Here's a new center I just created to practice parts of speech.  If your class is like mine you've already gone through nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs and some friends still forget which one does what.  In this fun center students choose 1 of the sentence strips you've printed off (or tailor made yourself) to glue to their activity pages.  Then they color code the parts of speech in each sentence and take inventory of how many of each kind of word the sentence has.

For older grades I've included adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions in the parts of speech they will need to color code and inventory.

Click the preview below to get it from TPT.

Or click here to get it from Teachers Notebook!
